Alarm blares. It's Monday again. Or rather, oh, hell no Monday. The familiar dread sets in as you realize another week is starting. Maybe it’s the weather, or maybe it’s just the thought of work, but something feels off. This isn’t how you imagined spending your days.
Why do I have to work THIS Monday?
How is it possible that it’s Monday again?
The Monday morning alarm is a harsh reality check. It signals the start of another predictable week: wake up, commute, work, repeat. This monotonous cycle can be draining. We long for something more, something unexpected.
Do we really wake up every Monday morning according to our universal plan and just keep going on? When was the last time you tried to change your routine? What about those perfect Mondays – have you ever had one? Or maybe some other days? Do you make any changes going forward?
We are all human beings who live in comfort zones that offer a false sense of security. But, what about changes? Oh yes, they do happen occasionally and we can actually say that we’re making progress. Still, our comfort zone is “comfortable”, it has rules: wake up, exercise, work hard, hang out occasionally, sleep and do it again and again. Slowly we become slaves of our jobs, habits and the same way of life that we live not just every Monday, but every day of the week. We're caught in a loop of worry without taking any steps forward. How can we tell when we're stuck in a rut?
When does our daily grind stop aligning with our dreams and aspirations?
Steve Jobs famously asked himself, "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I'm about to do today?"
This powerful question can be a wake-up call. It forces us to confront whether our actions align with our values and goals. It is actually this intriguing question that made me think about my own routine. For 33 years, I've asked myself every morning, "Am I living the life I want?" When the answer was consistently "no," I knew something had to change. But breaking free from the daily grind isn't always easy. We're often told to "think outside the box" or "step out of our comfort zone," but what does that actually mean in practice?
It's within these moments of discomfort and uncertainty that we discover our true potential. This is where dreams are born and transformed into reality. Stepping outside your comfort zone is the catalyst for extraordinary growth and personal fulfilment.
